Why we're getting behind Greg Searle and London 2012.

We are delighted to announce that we are now supporting local rower, Greg Searle as he attempts to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Following the appointment of BMW Group as the Official Automotive Partner of the 2012 Games, BMW is now actively supporting British athletes, such as Ellie Simmonds and Louis Smith, via the BMW London 2012 Performance Team. Meanwhile, in line with the Performance Team initiative, BMW dealers like us will be working with local athletes, supporting their endeavours to qualify for Team GB or ParalympicsGB.

Greg trains locally with Molesey Rowing Club in East Molesey. Marlow born Greg Searle grew up in Chertsey, Surrey and has been rowing since the age of 13. At just 16, Greg had represented Great Britain at the Junior World Championships and did so again at age 17 and 18. He won two gold medals at junior level, making him Great Britain's most successful junior rower ever. Greg represented the Great Britain senior team at World Championships from 1990-1999 winning various events with gold, silver and bronze medals. He has also represented Great Britain at the Olympics Games, winning gold at the 1992 Barcelona Games, bronze at the 1996 Atlanta Games and finishing 4th at the 2000 Sydney Games.

‘I am really grateful to Scotthall Stirling Corner and BMW for their support,’ said Greg. ‘It's tough trying to qualify for an Olympic place and it's a big help knowing that they are behind us, helping to raise funds and awareness. It's also fantastic having a brand new BMW 5 Series GT from now until the end of the 2012 Olympic Games. There's a lot of travelling to heats, competitions and promotional events so it's great being able to arrive there in style.’
